Christantus Uche Sparks Dominant Palace Win at Irish Side Shelbourne.
Despite embarking on their maiden continental adventure, Crystal Palace are learning very quickly. Missing star players like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles left Dublin with a comfortable win that virtually secures them a spot in the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.
Another three points in their next fixture against Finnish KuPS should be sufficient to secure direct passage to the knockout stages, especially after a prior stumble against Strasbourg.
Squad Members Grasp the Opportunity
This occasion offered a platform for some of Palace's fringe talent to impress. Christantus Uche, in only his second start after joining on loan from Getafe, notched the scoring with a well-taken goal. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a another, scoring for the second consecutive succession.
The Shelbourne side that had concluded their domestic season proved outmatched even for a largely second-string Palace outfit. The Londoners were already weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with leg injuries.
Dominance Asserted from the Outset
In spite of torrential rain in Dublin, Palace quickly took control. A flowing move in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, let Nketiah to set up Uche for a straightforward tap-in.
Midfielder Adam Wharton came close soon after, driving a powerful shot over the bar. Nketiah subsequently appealed for a penalty after racing into the area, but the official waved away the protests.
Ex-Arsenal striker didn't need to wait long to find his goal, prodding home from close range after Uche's shot had struck the post.
Shelbourne were clinging on for dear life. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to avoid a booking for a couple of robust tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the woodwork with a powerful header from a corner.

The match was effectively over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past a series of comically weak challenges before coolly dispatching a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.
After the break, manager Oliver Glasner took the chance to rest several individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse came close to scoring with his first touch, only to see his effort blocked.
Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one shot crash off both posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then missed a sitter of a chance, showing there is still room for improvement in his game.
The only concern for Palace was a second-half injury to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This allowed 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to make his senior debut, capping an otherwise positive evening for the visiting side.
